Oh hai. Wat U want? Is funny cats? Here they is.
I was stumbling around knitty trying to find a use for my 4 skeins of bright orange casacade pastaza when I happened upon a really cool site. Luscious Gracious belongs to a whole family of knitters, writers and artists. Very cool. They've even incorporated eachothers art into the knitting, words and images silk screened onto knit items. Just thought I'd share. :)
Just finished Anansi Boys by my faboo favorite author af all time, Niel Gaiman. This book was awesom and totally makes me wish I was a little old man wearing a green fedora. Mayhaps I can wear a green fedora anyhow. Christmas is coming you know. :) Sarah and I both ran out and bought this book as soon as it came out and I actually resisted opening it until Sunday night. I haven't really put it down since as you may have been able to tell from my finishing it this very evening. Although American Gods has not been surpassed by this novel in the favorite book category, it was still spectacular.
It was definately NOT a sequal to American Gods, which some people had
originally thought (despite Gaimans honest claims against that) It was
more of a continuation of one of the charachters in that book. Namely,
Mr. Nancy, or more accurately the sons of Mr. Nancy. It's a story of a family reunion of sorts, funerals, weddings, New Orleans Jazz bands storming cancer wards. That sort of thing.
Throughout the entire book there was a very heartwarming feel. It still carried plenty of weight and reflective moments as any Gaiman story but this particular book seemed to be a bit on the light side. It reminded me more of Good Omens than any of his other books. It's funny becuase every time I read Good Omens I have a tendancy to assume that all of the light hearted, constant underlying humor was Pratchett's doing. After reading this I'm quite certain that either Gaiman had a lot more to do with what I considered Pratchett's infulence on Good Omens or that Pratchett's influence on Gaiman stayed along for the ride in Anansi Boys. In any event the book was great and I would reccomend it to anybody. ESPECIALLY anyone who loved American Gods or Good Omens.
I just finished reading The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Neffinegger. It was pretty cool. I was more impressed with the science fiction end of the book than the whole love story though. I'm not sure why. It was well written, and it was put together in a way that left room for a few surprises but I somehow dodged the emotional attatchment to charachter bullet. With books like this one I sometimes feel like I've been cheated. Like everyone else who read this was probably very moved. Maybe I'M a genetic oddity who weaves in and out of human emotion instead of human time. (Poor Bobleo!) Or maybe I've just been spoiled by Bronte love stories. I think it's those Bronte's fault. Anyway, a good book, worth reading. I'm just not jumping out the window over it that's all. :)
I was lucky enough to peep in on Niel Gaiman's blog today and read that there is a sneak peak of the first chapter of Anansi Boys available online. I'm so excited about this book I can hardly conatin myself. Anything he writes I am, of course, ready to trek however far to get my hands on, but this I am especially psyched for. American Gods was my favorite story so far and Anansi Boys is a continued story of Mr. Nancy, an African spider god who befriends Shadow in American Gods. So read away fellow Gaiman nuts. It should be grand.
Here a few of my new favorite blogs. Here's a big Scribble salute! We raise our crayons to you!

I have been accidentally afflicted with a new obsession. It is quite sad, I know, but I am obsessed with a Japanese soap opera manga named Marmalade Boy. It is meant for 13 year old girls. It all started when I visited my parents and picked up the book (coincidentally owned by one of my teenage sister's friends) in curiousity. All of a sudden I was drawn into the world of Miki, a girl who cannot decide between two saucy tennis players. I can't get enough. But I am forcing myself to only buy one episode a month. It's not easy I tell ya.
